I
love Tumblr, I really do. I loved the people and their blogs, I LOVED some of
the memes, GIFS, pictures some of the bloggers. Hell, the Tumblr community was
able to give a girl named Peyton a fluffy chicken. It's amazing what can happen
when you get a bunch of people to do something out of the goodness of their hearts.
I loved being on Tumblr and I loved being able to be a part of the community. I
was on for about 4 years.
There were different parts of Tumblr and I,
myself was not a typical hipster, let’s take some pictures, dresses and skirts
Tumblr user but was more on the fandom side. (I have attached a picture for you
and the picture is just a generalization and example. It is not JUST this.
There are also other things like food blogs, random fun blogs, etc.) I was
(and still am) into Doctor Who and Sherlock, Supernatural, Avengers, Homestuck,
some Anime, and a bunch of the classics like LOTR (Lord of the Rings) and Harry
Potter. There are probably more, I just can't think of any at this
moment. I loved being part of this community because we had something in
common; almost 99.9% of people who were into this had something to deal with.
When I mean that, I mean like being a loner or an outsider, depression, anxiety, insecurities, etc. We all had something that
made us who we were. Lots of people hated big social gatherings or were thought
of as weird or abnormal growing up, making that person shy and vulnerable. We
all had this bond that made us become close to each other, without even
knowing who that person was or where they lived or what they looked like. That
was the good thing about it; we have been/ were judged on our personalities and
in that group on Tumblr, we wouldn't judge/be judged by one another if someone
was too fat, too skinny, to annoying, to quiet, etc.
These fandoms were kind of like the things
that saved us, I guess. It definitely saved me. For me, personally, I
have depression and anxiety and multiple insecurities and to know that I wasn't
alone in this battle at age 13/14 was the most comforting thing in the world. I
could relate to so many other people my age and no one would judge me. It was a
miracle and something that saved my life. I released lots of my feelings to
these shows because a lot of them are about outsiders and people we, as the
viewers, can look up to. It
was great and fun at first. Then, things changed.
THE
12 YEAR OLDS
Lots of blogs were run by 16/17 year olds. When a blog was found out to
be run by someone 13 years of age or less, there were for some reason
AUTOMATICALLY banned from the Tumblr society. I would see posts that trashed 12
year old bloggers for being their age. They could be “hipsters” or just regular
fandom blogs and they would get beaten up by other blogs because they were too
immature for Tumblr. Here are some examples:
We
were all 12 year olds once in our lives. And I bet when we were 12 we made some
dumb decisions but that is not the same for ALL 12 year olds. Here is an
example:
This is one of MANY things I saw right on
Tumblr. This person happened to be a fangirl. (I looked up here url) I thought
Tumblr was a place where people WERENT supposed to judge you. This, my friends,
is a form a BULLYING; cyber-bullying to be correct.
THE POLITICS
Everyone has their own opinions on things
like whether you like chocolate or vanilla ice cream or if you would rather eat
frogs or eat snails. Yet at the end of it, it doesn’t really matter who likes
who because that’s just what the other person thinks. When it was getting close
to the election, I would see multiple posts on Tumblr about what people thought
of the candidates There would be some arguments as to which candidate was
better and such but as election day got closer, a lot more fights were
appearing. More posts talking about how all democrats are communists or how all
republicans were rich snubs and it got nasty. It got to a point where I said an opinion, got 20 hate anons (anonymous messages) and lost 13 followers.
The stereotypes of things like this or
other stereotypes of anything just piss me off. Shouldn’t we respect people for
what they think and no criticize them? No opinions are wrong. Just because your
opinion does not match someone else’s doesn’t give neither you, nor the other
person the right to tell you or you tell them otherwise.
Tumblr is a great website and I love it.
The people there on it are great but, while being on their, a lot are being
total jackasses and hypocritical bore. It just upsets me that people who, at
the beginning who would be so welcoming, could do things like this and be like
the bullies in school; stereotype people and judge people not on their personality.
I quit Tumblr because the people who were bullied became the bullies and I couldn’t be more disappointed.

questions and want to debate about this with me in a mature way then great –
